| Rebecca Haag issues report card for Obama |
|
AIDS Action Committee's President & CEO, Rebecca Haag, has written a review of President Obama's first year in office, focused primarily on his administration's domestic HIV/AIDS work. The article begins:
Have things really changed in Washington since the Obama Administration took office last January? I would argue that the answer is yes, particularly as it relates to HIV/AIDS.
Of course, many of us are disappointed that we have not won substantive battles for greater LGBT equality and health care coverage for all, or that the dream of an era of change which was the core theme of Obama’s campaign has not been truly embraced by the powers within the Beltway. But as my politically savvy wife often reminds me, in the world of politics and public policy our measurement should be "progress, not perfection."

| Congress ends 20-year ban on syringe exchange funding |
|
After a hard-fought battle to end the 20-year ban on federal funding for syringe exchange programs (SEPs), Congress has finally taken definitive action. The repeal is expected to be signed by President Obama by Friday, December 18th.
Thank you to all of the grassroots activists who wrote, called and lobbied Congress to make this happen! SEPs are proven to reduce HIV infections and provide care to a hard to reach group of HIV+ people. Your work will directly improve the lives of thousands of people.
