What is Pridelights?
The program for the Pridelights Tree Lighting includes local leaders and entertainment by members of the Boston arts community as well as the presentation of the Spirit of Stonewall Award to a local individual or organization that has promoted awareness of HIV/AIDS within the gay and lesbian community. At dusk, the giant light switch is thrown to light up a tree covered in pink lights. For more information on AAC's week of pride events, go to www.aac.org/pride.
On Tuesday June 8 the 17th annual Pridelights concert will be held at Club Café, located on Columbus Avenue in Boston’s South End. The traditional pre-cursor to Boston Pride, this year’s Pridelights will feature appearances a wide variety of performers including Gene Dante and The Future Starlets, Liza Lott, Crystal Crawford and Miss Kris as well as Boston’s legendary Hat Sisters.
The 2010 Spirit of Stonewall Award will be presented to the Bill Svetz. As the full time manager of Fritz as well as being president of the Beantown Softball League and a Board Member of the Boston Gay Rights Fund (BGRF), Billy has long been a supporter of a number of philanthropic endeavors. Billy, along with his fellow Board Members of BGRF, have been responsible for raising more than $1M, which has been distributed to a wide variety of non-profit institutions throughout the greater Southern New England area. Billy’s unwavering support of the GLBT communities in both monies raised and volunteer coordination makes him the ideal recipient of AIDS Action’s Annual Spirit of Stonewall award.
