The Larry Kessler Scholars Program: A Legacy of Learning and Leading
AIDS Action Committee is looking for the next generation of people who will fight HIV/AIDS in our country. The epidemic is far from over: will you help end it?
The Larry Kessler Scholars Program is a paid ten-week summer internship at AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts (AAC) designed to continue Larry Kessler’s legacy of human rights advocacy and social justice in the battle against HIV/AIDS. Larry Kessler is the founder and former Executive Director of AAC, a tireless advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS.
As a Larry Kessler Scholar, You’ll Experience:
§ Mentorship. Scholars work with an experienced and talented mentor in a chosen department: public policy/advocacy, client services, prevention and education, or fundraising and management.
§ Seminars. Scholars participate in a bi-weekly educational seminar or hands-on experience designed to enhance understanding of human rights and social justice. Speakers have included nurses, politicians and artists from organizations such as Physicians for Human Rights, the Boston Globe, and the Theater Offensive.
§ Scholar Project. Each Scholar undertakes a meaningful project in their department. At the close of the Scholar program they present their accomplishments to the AIDS Action staff. Scholars are challenged to apply their new knowledge to benefit their campus or community following their tenure.
§ Financial Support. Scholars receive a $3500 stipend for the summer.
All Scholars will be based in Boston, Massachusetts. The dates of the program are June 9 to August 15 2008.
APPLICATION
Eligibility and Expectations
Entering college juniors or seniors, recent graduates and graduate students in relevant fields are eligible to apply. Applicants will be judged on the basis of their demonstrated commitment to service and activism, as well as their desire to utilize the Scholar experience to create change in their campus or community. Ideal candidates are mature, pro-active learners.
