AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts (AAC), organizers of AIDS Walk Boston “From All Walks of Life™,” announce that Macy’s is the presenting sponsor of the 2007 Walk, to be held on Sunday, June 3. Macy’s record-setting $50,000 presenting sponsor level of financial contribution marks a first-ever in the Walk’s 22-year history, representing Macy’s overall commitment to the Walk, an annual staple Boston event.

“We are ecstatic to be partnering with Macy’s on the 2007 AIDS Walk Boston,” said Rebecca Haag, Executive Director, AAC. “While Macy’s has been a partner with us on several events and projects, this level of sponsorship signals the company’s promise to be a leading community neighbor and its commitment to join AIDS Action in our fight to eradicate AIDS within the next 10 years.”

The 6.2-mile (10K) AIDS Walk and the corresponding Larry Kessler 5K run will continue to be held on the first Sunday in June, this year on Sunday June 3, at The Hatch Shell on Boston’s Esplanade. Registration for individuals and teams is now open at http://www.aidswalkboston.org/. The important role of fund-raising involves individual participants, teams and corporate sponsors, all who play a vital role in AIDS Walk Boston.

"Macy's has always been a strong supporter of raising AIDS awareness in local communities, and has been at the forefront of raising funds for research for almost 25 years," said Ron Klein, chairman and ceo, Macy's East. "We are proud to continue Filene's long-standing commitment to the annual AIDS Walk Boston and of course, the important day-to-day work of AIDS Action Committee with our first-ever presenting sponsorship of this terrific event. With our sponsorship and on-going community events, Macy's is committed to fighting AIDS in New England."

The AIDS Walk is one of the first and largest fund-raising walks in Boston and one of the first AIDS Walks in the country. Historically AAC’s largest fund-raising event, the Walk attracts more than 10,000 participants across the Commonwealth annually who have generously raised more than $30 million for programs and services to support those living with and at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS. There are approximately 1,000 new HIV infections every year in Massachusetts, meaning that at least two - sometimes three - people are becoming infected every day. It is estimated that there are approximately 22,000-24,000 people infected with HIV in Massachusetts and that at least one quarter of them do not know they are infected.
