Cambridge Needle Exchange Program Volunteer

Summary: The Cambridge Needle Exchange (NEP), a program within AIDS Action Committee's Prevention and Education Department, is committed to the practice of harm reduction and founded on the idea that drug users deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. We provide a safe and confidential space for injection drug users to access sterile injection equipment, sharps disposal, risk reduction strategies, overdose prevention education and nasal Narcan, educational materials on HIV, HCV, & STDs, and rapid HIV testing. Our services are provided FREE of charge and participation is anonymous and confidential.

Primary Duties:

There is a minimum commitment of one 3 hour shift per week with for least 6 months. We currently need volunteers Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11am - 5pm and Tuesday from noon - 5 pm.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, ability to carry out administrative functions, and a willingness to learn.  Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices, HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, STIs/STDs, and familiarity with drug use and treatment options is preferred, but not required.
